You know I thought about this, I must be different than all you guys, I pay attention to where the edge is instead of watching the spine. To be honest I just go by feel. You,ll know if your scraping. Plus I have only one eye so I go by feel most of the time, never tried watching where the spine was.

Gasman for the jawline your having trouble getting smooth, try stretching your skin up so its on the low side of your cheek, then you have it tight and flat for a smooth shave, or don't. BBS is just an ego thing, CCS is always good. Tc

Thanks TC but i do this in two directions but it just dont seem to cut it close enough. Im more of a CCS kinda guy now days. Somedays under the jawline turns out pretty close but most the time not. I dont worry too much about it. I wat h where the blade 8s going to but also try to pay attension to the gap from spine to skin. Ok, when im thinki g about it i do but half the time im thinking, "if i was in bed right now and didnt have to go eat i could get 6 hours sleep". It rough being the Gasman.

I usually do what is comfortable and it seems to depend a slight bit on what Razor I am using. I will say that going ATG I for sure use a lower angle of attack. Makes a big difference for me.

After you have been shaving a while, doesn't matter too much what kind of razor it is, you just unconsciously use the right angle for yourself. It just takes some experimenting and time to get there.

After straight shaving for 46 years I don't think about angles. When I started there was no internet shave forum and nobody to coach me, so I just did what was comfortable. At that young age my beard and shaving techniques sort of evolved together. If a given razor doesn't deliver what I consider a perfect shave it goes to the coticule and strops for a refresh.

I'm with Bob and Keith here. Despite my several year's of membership here, I've only been shaving this way less than 2 years in total. Even with my limited experience, I simply adjust the angle lower as I go WTG, XTG, and finally ATG without really focusing too much on the spine or exact angle. My muscle memory is already built up, and with more time the duration the duration of my shave sessions should shorten a bit.

What I'm always focused on is the feel of the blade against the skin. I'm pretty good at halting blade movement ASAP if I feel skin cutting or scraping. I get a few weepers in the ATG areas on this chin and left of my mustache due to some slight scar tissue earned from a motocross accident when I was younger. (Getting splinters of wood scraped from your face and removed from a gash in your lower lip at the ER is an unpleasant experience I must say.)

I don't watch for the exact angle but I can adjust it by muscle memory and feel. I payed attention to the angles for this morning shaves and I definitely take a more aggressive angle for the WTG the reduce it for my 2 XTG and passes then reduced it more for the final XTG pass.

I like a heavy grind but gave up on wedges because the had tendency to stick to my face if I reduced the angle too much. This does not happen with 1/4 hollows.

Ive experianced the sticking a few times. With a near wedge. Wondered why it happened. Now i know. BTW, my under the jaw problem is getting better as last night i tried a new direction of pass. It wasnt very comfortable do it but the out come was better. I just need more years under my belt is all. I will also try the more angle on the first pass. Itscall pretty new to me so i learn a bit more all the time.

This is so true. I use this as well. And, of course, I love the stuff.

Never paid any attention to it before but I decided to look today. It looks like mine is usually 40-45° and my edges last quire some time.
