Shaving Every Day
I'm revisiting an idea that I have wondered about but don't remember asking. For those who shave every day, can you get by with a single pass?
I normally shave every two to three days. Sometimes I might go five days between shaves. I normally do two passes and occasionally two passes and a touch up. My skin tends to get irritated if I shave more than three times a week doing at least two passes per shave. Does limiting the number of passes cause less irritation enabling one to shave every day? Does shaving every day limit the need to do multiple passes?

I usually always do a one pass shave, I enjoy an ATG pass everywhere except for the goatee area it's more an XTG pass, but it's a one pass shave, maybe a little touch up here and there, but that's it. The shallow angle of the ATG pass works well for my beard and sensitive skin, I've tried doing multiple passes, but I just can't take it well and come back to an one pass ATG shave. That's it for me.

Thanked: 3225I think it varies by the individual and what their skin can tolerate as far as shaving daily goes. Personally I can't get by with a single pass and feel good about it. I habitually do a daily 4 pass shave but then my skin tolerates that nicely for a close and comfortable shave. I would think that reducing the number of passes just might also reduce the level of irritation if you have sensitive skin allowing you to shave more frequently. There is only one way to find out and that is try a single pass daily shave.

Since Navy years I've been a daily shaver other than hospitalizations. As I've gotten shakier, I use a SE or DE more often. Irritation can be a problem with thinner geriatric skin! Quality soaps and aftershave become a necessity.
Even with a Schick E-3, (equals a Fatboy on #12) I still have to use two passes to get a fine shave. A good straight will require two or more passes also.
YMMV!

I shave most work days and find that I get a smoother easier shave if I have a little stubble of more than a day. A single pass after 5 days in many ways to me is better than a single pass after 1 day. I don't have problems with irritation with a daily 2 pass so I have not experimented with only using one.
The problem with replying to questions like this is we don't have your face.....
I see that your location is rural Missouri are you a farmer? I grew up on a farm and the cows don't care if you are BBS.

I shave daily, single pass. Any multiple passes irritate my skin.
I have found, thanks to Obie, the first tier creams/soaps help keep down the irritation I use to get with a daily shave.
My neck is the most sensitive area, but a nice thick lather is the cure for me.
My face can take much less "quality" of lathering and be fine.
Hey it don't matter if we're farmers, the cows are ladies too (see Benz quote below) and sometimes we have to run to townLook sharp and smell nice for the ladies.~~~Benz

It depends on the sensitivity BUT also on the edge. A really keen edge like the 17/16 Wade & Butcher I posted in the shave of the day thread Saturday night left my face clean shaven after one ATG pass. There was no hair left for the second pass so I ended up just scraping skin off. The rougher/more dull an edge the more irritation too. With a good edge I find after 1 or 2 passes I am done whether I want to be or not. I shave daily and if for some reason I notice irritation developing I stick to a 1 pass ATG DFS for the next couple days.

I live in town in a sparsely populated part of the state. I can see cattle and crops within a really short drive from my house. When I hunted I could go door to tree stand in under 20 minutes. I don't have to be cleanly shaven at my job so I don't usually shave every day.
I was working cattle on a friend's farm and tried to use my body to push it into the corral. It knocked me on my butt.
