Very well and succinctly said, thanks.
Besides the whole culture, devoted-monk-order brotherhood, history, technology, lost-art skills, cool toys, zen, man-pampering, and whatnot, I consistently get great shaves. My sensitive skin just loves the straight. After a great relaxing shave, I slap on some ice-cold water followed by good bay rum, and feel the toner effect freshen and tighten my skin. For a few hours I'm 18 again, playing with my smooth face. I just never get tired of it, nope.Last edited by FatboySlim; 01-17-2019 at 04:29 AM. Reason: Fixed a typo

Thanked: 228Nope, I would never switch back. I do wish I had started straight razors sooner. Just imagine all the people that may have used the same razor I am using a hundred or so years back in the past. Mind boggling just thinking about it!

Thanked: 17If tomorrow gilette came out with a 130 year old single blade cartridge that resembles a cleaver with a case it folds into I might do it. Being unlikely I'll stick with vintage straights, I don't do it for the close shave I do it for the thrill, tradition, routine, etc.

It’s all about the zen, the ritual, the practice, the way, the commitment

I'll never switch back to Gillette
I have a certain disdain for companies who I believe price gouge and or misuse public trusts etc.
The other more important reason is that I just plain have a more comfortable shave with a tool I can maintain myself for the rest of my days.
I also like that I am not disposing of anything but whiskers and suds

Thanked: 9I started shaving with a safety razor in 2012 and then switched over to a straight razor in 2016. In all honesty I was getting consistently better shaves from my Gillette Fusion. However, the whole process of wet shaving hooked me because of the ritual and has kept me engaged as it is by far the best start to the day that I could ask for. I don't choose to shave with a straight because it is faster, more efficient or cheaper than a cartridge razor, I do it simply because I enjoy it.

I started out to save money, because I would've overdrawn my account if I bought a 5 pack of Mach 3's hahahahahahaha
I will probably buy one to try if it is a suitable travel razor, so I can avoid checking luggage. But, I would rather pay a fee to check a bag with a couple straights than have a poor shave at this point. Since I also only fly for special events, it's maybe once every few years. But it would have to be better than a DE and near similar in price.
For other things I do old fashioned-like, I use fountain pens daily. Started out not having a suitable red pen that had a line thick enough and a red dark enough to be read on the shop floor. That and I just dislike disposable items of any sort, just wasteful.

Thanked: 113No thank you, especially at the current prices they charge for the cartridges.
I will stick to my straights and DEs when I travel.
cheers!
