Depends on where I am......sounds weird but in the last few places I have lived in my lather was a different consistency. Some places the water allows the lather to be washed from the blade. Others I have to wipe on a towel/tissue.

When I shave unother person I wipe the razor in a kitchen paper towell because I am away from tap water.

I used to swirl it off but that way one runs out of lather on the brush. Let me explain.
I use shaving cream either from a tub (Colleen's) or from a tube (Proraso or Palmolive sensitive skin). I put some on a wet brush and make a lather on my face. I do only one pass against the grain but passes do tend to overlap. So, after one area is done I re-lather the bit of the skin just done and adjacent to the part that comes next. That way the amount of lather on the brush gets less and less.
I have been thinking long how to solve the problem (I don't use a mug, don't want to whip up a lather in a mug anyway) so my solution is: I wipe it off with the brush and use it again. Sounds funny but works for me. Only disadvantage is you are left with tiny hairs on the face which you wouldn't have otherwise but that's easy taken care of.Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.
