Thread: Which Razors

I've gone through probably 100 razors in the last year, restorations honing etc...
and I've come across 5 razors that were truely exceptional shavers close to what you're describing.
1 8/8 Henckels $68 off E-bay
1 7/8 Henckels Froidur $225 from shavingshop.com
1 7/8 Wade & Butcher frameback restoration project sold to a member here
1 6/8 filarmonica #13 $60 off E-bay
1 7/8 TI $125 found in a local pawn shop...
Each one of them is an excellent shaver, a "10" so to speak, but the 8/8 henckels out performs them all. It mows down hair effortlessly, and is easily the reason i'm addicted to large blades. It's plain, has minor pitting on one side, black plastic handles, and I wouldn't sell it for anything.

I have a bunch of razors that I love, but my Wostenholm IXL, the one in my avatar, has some kind of special mojo working. The whiskers run screaming from this razor with no effort on my part. It also keeps and edge like nobody's business.

Thanked: 4942I knew this would be tough. So many choices. I also have a King razor from Indiana, PA and of course the TI Egyptians that are at the top of my special shavers. The sad part is the continued search for the even more perfect shaver and honing process.
This is so much fun.........

Thanked: 13245Easy choice for me
I have 3 razors that I absolutely love shaving with, all three are simply great smooth shavers.... Honestly I haven't had a bad shave from any razor YET!!! some just stand a little higher than the others..
Tied for 2nd place, a 5/8 DD Grim Reaper/ Lifetime and a 11/16 Otto Deutsch "Hans"
First place and still there my 4/8 'Mystical' little L.H. Mack "Standard" Columbus Ohio....
One of these days I will end up getting a custom built, or spring for a Zowda, so far though I am still enamored with restoring and using vintage razors!!!!

Thanked: 0only have three to choose from, a wacker, a lynn honed hoffritz, and an unknown leather handled wedgey sheffield that says barber shop & razor on it. i like the unknown one best, feels right in my hand, and glides better without having to consentrate while shaving. this is my weekday, im in a hurry and only have 5 minutes to shave razor. its not the best one, its harder to hone a descent edge on it, but once its sharp it cuts effortlessly. i never get cut with this razor even when im going for speed.anyone else have a leather handled razor

My Robeson 15A250... honed and stropped by me, it is on the small side (5/8?), but the first time I shaved with it, I couldn't believe I was shaving... no irritation, and yes, the whiskers seemed to disappear magically with each pass! It's not the prettiest razor, with lots of good patina, slightly bent, with an uneven bevel, but I described the first shave it gave as the girl next door who cooks better than your grandmother and can still knock your socks off

I've never seen a leather scaled razor before, actually.

I had a 5/8 Joseph Rogers & Sons that was by far the best shave I have ever had. Unfortunately, I didnt realize how great it was until it was already spoken for. I honed up to be shave ready before I sent it out and only then realized what I was letting go. Still use it as the baseline for all my other razor's/shaves...
