Hi. I started to shave one a week for two weeks...than every two days and have been shaving at that frequence since. The shave is good for 1½day so I wait till next morning.
Being retiered I have time so I shave around 10½h in the morning.
It takes me around 20 minutes: go get the razor from my razor drawer, time to choose??, strop 30 to 40 passes, go to the bathroom, prepare the brush in hot water, towel twice with hot water, apply Proraso pre-shave cream, hot towel again, chose soap from many, prepare lather, hot towel again, lather twice, shave WTG, hot towel, lather again, shave across the grain, clean up, put on after shave, wipe and blow dry the razor, wash soaping cup, rinse brush , put everything away...and it's done.
This is a priviledge moment in my day, always anxious for a close shave.
This week end I was at my sons house and sleept over so in the morning I shaved with foan soap, no hot towel... but with my straight8. Still got a good shave but I realy prefer all the fossing around with the hot towel and all...

Thanked: 90You didn't have an "Every other day" option. I typically don't shave every day, and I didn't start when I switched to straights. I voted "Every Day".

I shaved every second night, that way my face could recover before work. But I also started honing/restoring razors at the same time, so I was learning both.
It was worth it.

When I first started I sported a beard, a very designed and trimmed one. I started sporting this beard because I was fed up with disposables. Then I found my dad's old DE and started to use one, just to get a better shave while I waited for my straight to arrive. Used it for 2 or 3 weeks, shaving twice or three times a week. When the straight arrived all else was put aside and I shaved every other day - just my cheeks, bellow my lower lip and the bottom of my neck... but I needed more! So the beard started to get trimmed away. One day I simply shaved it of and the mustache was left behind... that and my side burns: I looked like I was pulled out of the 70's! Groovy... but my girlfriend didn't like the mustache. She placed an ultimatum: grow the beard back or shave the 'stache, Mr. "blame it on the boogey..." and added: "you look like my father!". Now... nobody wants to look in the mirror, feel groovy and then hear the better half say that you look like your father-in-law. I know I didn't... So I kept the 'stache for a while and then surprised her with a baby-face sporting side-burns (it's my trademark... have them since I have facial hair... need them to survive in society!)
So... when I had the beard and the straight I shaved every other day; when I had my beloved mustache, I shaved every day and now, without it I also shave every day, except on sundays - that is a day to let the face rest. I really don't need to shave every day... but if I do so I feel cleaner and ultimately I look better. If you have to shave, you should do it in the best way possible. I'll never go back to DE or disposables - I'd rather have a beard again.

I also shave every other day or every third day depending on what kind of time I have on my hands. I never go longer than three days with out shaving though.

Thanked: 0I just started so this relates perfectly I have been shaving every day (total shave with the straight) and then yesterday i took a day off so that i could have a little bit more stubble (to see the direction of the grain as I never shaved often before turning to straights... would only shave once evry 3 or 4 wks...) Shaving with a straight isnt cumbersome, it's exciting and fun so I enjoy doing it, and it doesnt matter how long the hair is, it'll cut it without shaving it down with some clippers first.
every day is fun, every other day is good enough while I'm still learning... it depends on how excited I am to shave that day hehe

I was reading through these posts and a question came up... Is it just me or since the day "we" converted into straight razor shaving "we" tend to shave more often? I notice this particularly with people who leaped into the straight right from disposables (not as much as those who are ex-DE folks...)? Any thoughts on this?
