I just juggled a razor!
i am getting pretty good with shaving and much more comfortable flicking the razor around which is great. well i was up til about 2am honing my Puma last night so i wasn't exactly wide awake at 7am this morning. the shave was going just fine and i rinsed the the blade and as i brought it back up it slipped a bit and man i juggled it about 4 times without cutting myself or dropping the razor. i was wide awake after that. i still can't believe it. plus it is my best shaving razor.
i don't know if this is a common thing but it was sure scary for me.

I managed to juggle yesterday unsucessfully and now I have a hole in my thumb! I didn't even have wet hands!

Thanked: 4942Unfortunately this does happen some times. I don't know how you guys rinse your blades when shaving, but I try to keep the handle dry and only rinse the blade under running water and towel it off before the next stroke.

It's great to be "FIRST" doing many things-juggling Str8's isn't one of them.

I second that. I don't even let any water get on the tang; at first it was just to keep water out of the pivot, but now to keep my hands dry as well. I actually keep both of my hands totally dry; one for grip and the other to ensure I can get a good stretch on my face. Be very cautious about traces of soap/cream from your stretch hand; it might feel clean and dry, but the slightest amount of water will make it very slick.
I'd also suggest that you not try to catch a falling razor. I love some of mine dearly, but none are worth as much as my hands/fingers.

Thanked: 335As I said on another thread, "let 'em fall." Your fingers will heal from a cut, but if you cut tendons the healing process will be quite extended and normal function may never return. It ain't worth the chance: "let 'em fall."
And I third Lynn's suggestion of a rinse and wipe to insure the shank and scales don't slip and twist in your grip.
good luck, good shaving, & be safe

i always rinse only the blade, i realized very quickly how slippery a razor can get. that is the strange thing about my juggling is that the razor was dry, and it was so quick i had no time to even think to let it fall. it was like my brain just stopped for about 3 secs and my hand went limp so the razor got loose and then my brain popped back and somehow i didn't cut myself. crazy and lucky.

i keep a hand towel at my right side when shaving and do what lynn does, i thought i was being a litle paranoid untill i read about your audition for the surgery team, im glad you didnt cut a tendon or nerve as if you had your straight shaving days could very well be over. let them fall or put a towel down to catch it just dont use your hands, i also keep the hot towel i used in my prep in the sink to wipe the blade on instead of rinsing sometimes

Not only is it common but you really can't brag about it until you can include your feet in the juggling act.
Seriously, while you don't have to wear welding clothing to shave you should protect the razor by maybe laying a towel on the sink and a throw rug on the floor if you don't have carpeting...that way when you jump out of the way your razor won't get broke. Don't ask me how I know this.

Thanked: 174Sometimes I read threads and wonder at the human race.
Just to remind you, straight razors (well mine at least) are not toys.
I will say no more but I sometimes wonder about the sanity of man.
But then again, without a little insanity, we don't progress.
Tell me have you mastered the back flip over the head catch yet?
Total nutters.
For myself, I've learnt that if I drop a razor, the first thing is to remove your torso backwards and if I here a metallic clang I am just grateful that my life can continue as normal.
But if you want to juggle far be it from me.
