Thread: Pointers for shaving GF's legs

If my girlfriend ever wants to start to shave herself with a proper razor, she's gonna have to cross that bridge without first trying it out on my legs, no matter how hairy mine are! (Hope someone got my joke, please please please ^^)
Luckily, or perhaps not so luckily, she uses one of those epilators right now, which I must say is the most painful way of shaving anything in this world. She tried it out a month ago on my arm (just to show me how much it hurts), and that patch of skin is still bald. Kinda makes it understandable why you would want to go though 10 minutes of getting all the hairs on your legs pulled out by the root. :/ Here's a link for the fellas who like me didn't have a clue what this thing was before they saw one; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EpilatorLast edited by Stuggi; 01-15-2009 at 03:07 PM.

Thanked: 2I suggested to my fiancee that i could shave her legs with my straight and she was never really hesistant but it took a few months to get round to it.
I found it a very easy experience (i've been straight shaving for 6 years), she said that she usually just uses shampoo on her legs with her venus, i gave that a try but of course it wasn't long before i suggested a proper lather up.
I didn't realise she usually goes ATG, so i did the whole job WTG and she was pleased but said it wasn't as good as her venus. I put that down to WTG instead of ATG and it being the first time for me.
She was at the end of her bath and so she just laid back and submerged while resting her legs on the edge.
I was pleased when she said afterwards that it was a very relaxing and soothing experience.
Obviously i can't wait to try again to better the closeness

Thanks!
Just wanted to thank everyone for the continued great information posted to this thread! Everyone has been very thoughtful in their responses, and I greatly appreciate it. Hopefully the razor will become less intimidating as she reads and learns more about the process and it's benefits. I know that she hates buying those over-priced, lousy cartridges, so maybe that will be a motivating factor as well!

Get her good and drunk the first time.
Seriously. My wife was jumpy and nervous and her flinching didn't make it any easier on either of us. In order to provide a good shave, you need a stationary, relaxed target. After the first few shaves my wife was more comfortable, but for the first couple, our good amigo Senor Cuervo had to help relax her.

Pretty lucky we're on the topic of shaving legs and not something else or this thread would have gone inappropriate mighty fast if you catch my drift...

Technique is probably most important. you should film the first time and post it for critique
seriously, I'm not suggesting my wife use my razors on her legs, i know how fast they dull the disposables, I know they've got to be harder on the straight as well. besides, I can barely afford one person with RAD in the house.

In response to the original post...
Claytor, it's wonderful y'all are going to have this nice, close bonding experience! I've been married for 10 years and my husband wouldn't ever think of such a thing...nor would I.
Tips:
- Tricky areas are around the ankles and the knees. Go slow and use a small razor for tight spots, like a 2/8 or 3/8 in those areas. In larger areas like fronts, backs and sides of thighs, you can get away with a 5/8 or maybe even a 6/8 if that's what you've got.
- No aftershave needed, as we women are not used to it. What I DO use on my legs after shaving them is witch hazel, and only on the areas I know are prone to razor burn (for me, that's the very topmost parts of the fronts of my thighs.)
- Where you are located will be important for angle control. I've never shaved anyone else OR been shaved, but instinct tells me you'll be most successful if you come from behind her, if possible, reaching forwards as she would--this will also probably mentally & emotionally comfort her, since it will look almost like she's shaving herself.
- Keep your confidence very high and project that to her--it makes all the difference in the world in her comfort level. Don't know if you're old enough to remember that old R&B song from the 80's about "Act Like You Know" ("...and you'll be in the show. Act like you don't, and you won't!")
Hope this helps you out.
