    Default Fools Pass

I decided, as it's now two weeks since I started SRS, that I would try the 'fools pass'

It will deffo be staying in the routine, unless it means I can't shave daily! I don't think I could get that closeness of shave with out going ATG, XTG would probably do it but that would be awkward with the shavette as the point of the blade isn't at the point of the case.

I also used to two handed grip to shave my chin, which was effective as well.

    A good day!

I'm glad that by trying new techniques you're seeing results! Sometimes they work better than others. Once you've got the basic shave down it's good to see what else can improve it.

I can't comfortably go ATG coming up around the point of my chin. I also cannot do ATG on the upper lip. If you can and it is comfortable and effective that is great. Differences in skin and whiskers dictate what works for some and not for others. Back when I shaved with a DE I couldn't do the fool's pass with a Slant and a Feather.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Absolutely, I don't think I could have done either with out using a double handed grip as I don't think I would have been able to do the very light, controlled strokes that it allows you to do.

I'm just watching the videos and trying things basically, I can't do the 'Japanese grip' for example, though that's definitely a psychological problem!

There are so many variables, that's what keeps it interesting I guess.

Sorry to be ignorant but what is a FOOLS PASS? Is it also called by some other name?

It's called a fools pass because if you slip your nose will be laying in the sink!
It is a method that was introduced by Xman to shave the upper lip against the grain.

When I do the "Fool's Pass," it has to be the last of four passes.

    1. WTG going north-south.
    2. Chevron stroke from 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock, down and in, towards my upper lip at the center of the clock.
    3. Chevron stroke from 8 o'clock and 4 o'clock, up and in, toward my nose at the center of the clock.
    4. Fool's Pass.

Very light on all these, or else the sheer number of passes leaves me a bit raw or with weepers.
    Keep your pivot dry!

I've done it since my first shave with a str8, I guess ignorance is bliss. I still do it when I do a full 3 pass shave.

When I first started I tried to do the fools pass but using only one hand. So I tried using two hands. Before I heard of it being called the fools pass I thought I was cheating. Now I don't feel so guilty.

I do the fools pass too on every shave. I have dark hair and light skin. If I don't do ATG it looks like I haven't shaved. Plus I just like BBS shaves.
