I have a few times, but only when my prep is really over the top (shower, then lather with a hot towel, then relather with hot lather and shave). My beard isn't that thick though.

I'm happy to read, being a newbie, that experienced people also have quite some sound when shaving.

I do not consider a year and a half much experience, but: something new every day. There are just too many variables to tweak when shaving. And that is really what this site is all about for me, the never ending quest for the perfect shave. So far, each time I thought it just could not get better, along came a new razor, cream, brush, hone...

    Lovely. Just lovely.

I can't & i'm glad of it. Every time i go for bbs I get the most horrendous ingrowns. It's fine on my cheeks & throat, but not my chin or anywhere near my mouth. It's just not for me. I can go very close though, & i just have to stick with that.

I've been Straight shaving for about a year, and I can get pretty close on most areas, sideburns, cheeks, lower neck, but just under the jaw, even with crazy skin stretching and such, never quite leaves BBS unless I use a butcher grip and draw upward and inward cross-handed. Sometimes, this also opens up a few little spots of blood. From where they come I have no idea! Under my lip, I can't go XTG without tugging and slashing myself. In comparison, ATG there is easy.

The sound is a by product of the equipment you're using, in fact, the sound the razor makes is really quite useful - you can hear when you're getting it right and when you're getting it wrong.

if i do wtg and xtg on my cheeks, i can get bbs.

but, on my neck i have to do 3 or 4 passes, wtg, atg and then both diagonal directions. so i answered NO because it's not bbs all over with only 2 passes.

depends if the original question references the entire face or just parts. parts can be had without ATG passes but for the entire face and neck then I say no.

I don't worry about BBS . I really don't need my face to be as smooth as a baby's butt .

When I used a DE, I could achieve BBS by going XTG in a couple different directions. With a straight, even going in those same directions, it's not quite BBS and I have to go ATG in a couple areas. I thought this was going to be hell for my face (sensitive skin and heavy facial hair), but it turns out really well. There's sometimes a tiny bit of razor burn in those areas afterwards, but nothing unbearable and nothing a good aftershave can't fix.
