Thanked: 1587I said 'Yes'. If you cannot get BBS in a single WTG pass, you are doing something wrong.
(BBS = Basic, Bristly, Shave, right?)

I've never been able to stand for anything less than a BBS shave. Before using straight razors I would go to painful lengths to achieve that result. For me a final ATG pass is a must and I can't truly get a BBS shave without it.

Maestro Livi....
I did vote no in the pole question, but...........
Today I shaved with my Maestro Livi, and I will have to qualify my "no" answer a little bit, in that, the Maestro Livi comes the closest to BBS with one pass.
Ironically, since I have had this razor (maybe a year), I have only shaved with it about 5 or 6 times. I shaved with it this AM. What a great shaver. I could have stopped at one pass, but did a clean up 2nd pass. It's a rather large razor for me. A very heavy 8/8. I prefer about 1/4 to 1/2 grind, 6/8, if I had my choice.
Life is good!

If "true BBS" means perfectly smooth face and neck then no I have never yet achieved this seemingly simple result WTG, XTG, ATG, or otherwise

Thanked: 155One pass is enough, maybe I go over a few spots here and there, but its all part of the single pass. ATG is a sure fire way to get irritation and razor burn.

Thanked: 155My face can never be that smooth. As I have said before, I have a man's skin and that means it is not as soft or as smooth as either a baby's or a woman's, and it never will be. I can shave to where there is no detectable stubble using a proper "once over" technique, but my face will still feel like a qood quality leather. I suppose I could put some of my wife's skin goop on it to make it feel smoother, but I'll be @#%&*@ if I will.

Utility Shaving
I just need to look clean shaven, I find that I actually get a better shave with my razor because of the skin stretching than with the modern multi-blade razors I used to use. The best of both worlds is a Rolls razor if ATG is necessary for you.
I see guys of various ages shaving in the locker room at the fitness center, most of them are flailing away at their face
with many passes with the multiblade razors, they do not seem to look more shaven than I am.Last edited by Dresden; 05-04-2009 at 05:39 PM.

The way one's hairs grow is, I think, a large factor. Some people's facial hair grows almost perpendicular to the skin, resulting in very small WTG/ATG differences, whereas others' grows very flat (obviously this varies with location on a face too). Very flat growing hairs are difficult to remove WTG to the extend they can't be felt ATG. Well, I can't anyway.
