Thanked: 293I'm glad I found this thread. It's probably too early for me to be doing ATG passes, but I do get a wonderfully comfortable and close shave with just a single WTG pass and some XTG on the cheeks and neck. I still have the "good quality leather" feel, which I like, so maybe striving for the ABSOLUTE BBS shave is not for me (at least for right now). The bottom line is that it beats the alternative (cartridges or DE's).

Thanked: 13245If I push a shave I can get BBS on the areas I shave, but I quit every other kind of shaving for one reason, I HATE SHAVING IRRITATION !!!!!
So for me it is comfort over closeness every single time....

Thanked: 2actually I don't do ATG or XTG
I'm able to get BBS using only WTG, but I think it depends on the razor and the person...hehehhe

I usually get BBS, but it's not really a must for me. No irritation is my main priority, so depending on the blade, prep, cream or soap, dictates how I'll shave. I normally do 3 passes, I enjoy the whole experience.
We have assumed control !

Apply a few extra pounds of pressure with a Feather. That should be good enough to remove the dermis layer of skin.
For me, as a new guy to straights, WTG with my Feather gets a close enough shave (good enough for government work) but when my lady requests a super smooth shave I go ATG with the Feather. My Feather is the sharpest razor I own, right now.
Again, I'm rather new so take my advice as you will.

Thanked: 121I voted no, but...
now that I think of it...
My heaviest, most difficult area is right under the nose. Going against the grain there (N-S) is painful and leaves weepers, even after several "reduction" passes. But I HAVE to get BBS everywhere (I'm a little bit OCD), so although I do a 3 pass shave everywhere else, I end up doing 5 passes above my lip (N-S, E-W, W-E, SW-NE, SE-NW) to get there. Never do ATG, but the last two passes are awfully close, and leave my upper lip as smooth as the rest of my face, with only an occasional weeper.
Maybe I'm undecided on this one.

I stoped trying to get a baby soft finish when I realised that at 53 I just don't have baby soft skin any more.I'm happy with results that are better than with multi-blade razors.

Thanked: 190BBS - ATG
I have to go ATG is some areas to get the BBS. In other areas XTG gets BBS results.
