I created a trench rather than a slice using a Feather AC with a pro-super blade on my cheek about 1/16" wide by approx 1/2" long. Stupid me, I was trying a scything stroke while misjudging the angle of the "spine" and having it too high.

It's been six months or more and the scar is still visible. Not a big deal. I'm interested to see if it ever does completely disappear.

I've had a few cuts on my face, one nasty one from a straight, and a few from other things much less clean and orderly. Keeping it clean and applying neosporin pretty much took care of them completely.

All this time I though neosporin was some magical scar reducing substance, but it turns out it works so well because its petroleum jelly based (thanks Dustin). Go figure.

I got to tell you, I had what I thought was a pretty shallow cut from a shave when I first started, and 3 months later I still have a 1/4" scar on my jaw... but since my wife likes William Dafoe, I figure the more scars the better!!

Have you tried 200 strokes on it with the 16k Shapton?

Take two Motrin and rock the F*** on. Just tell the chicks it's a duelling scar from your days at good old Heidelburg U!

I'm wondering if this straight razor thing is for me, or if I should just stick to the DE. I make part of my income with my face and would feel right stupid if I messed that up.
Plus, the big ass scar I have from taking a few head butts to the bridge of my nose has finally faded after about 4 years.
Something about the words trench and face makes me hesitate about all this.
How many folks have no scars from shaving with a straight?

I would hate to see somebody get discouraged by these stories to the degree that they either quit or don't consider starting with a str8.

Most of these guys would (and probably should) admit that they weren't completely focused at the moment they cut themselves. So, if you can stay 100% on task, take it slow, and enjoy the process instead of worrying about cutting yourself you will be fine.

I have no scars from SR shaving, however I did give myself a good slice on the throat three days ago. It has already healed most of the way and is no longer visible.

Its best to take these stories much like the scene in Jaws where the two guys are comparing wounds-They represent the worst cases, but not necessarily the majority of users.

I think you're pretty safe from permanent scarring, but everybody heals different so you never know. I'm new to SR shaving, so I still get my fair share of nicks, cuts, and the occasional hack! My worst one was at the top of my cheek in the sideburn area. I didn't realize the razor was on my skin and moved laterally to get in just the right spot, and in so doing I sliced the p!ss out of my cheek right in front of my ear. It's going to heal fine, because of the fine edge on a razor. Clean cuts heal way better than jagged ones, so you should be good to go. All the slices I got on my jawline never scarred, and I used to cut myself fairly decent on a regular basis while I was getting the hang of it. They might take a little longer to completely fade away, but in a couple or three weeks you should never know it ever happened. Like I said I'm new to this and I still cut myself off and on, and I have yet to scar. Anyway, facial scars do crank up the CDI factor a bit. Just tell people you got hung up in concertina wire while escaping from a forced labor camp in Columbia or something. Hey man, they have to believe you because you got the scars to prove it! But, I really doubt you'll have any lasting marks.

I don't have a single scar. Probably the worst time I cut myself was about a month after I started straight shaving, just when I 'thought' I knew what I was doing. The problem was that I got complacent and didn't pay attention, and gave myself about a 2.5 inch vertical cut on my lower cheek. It completely healed in about a week, but there was a noticable red mark there afterwards. The mark faded in about a month, and I should add that it was pretty deep, I definately thought it was gonna scar. But if that one didn't, I'm sure I would have to try pretty hard to give myself a cut that would.
