nice incision - scar?
Well, I broke a fundamental rule yesterday; Don't shave while upset.
Anyway, I placed a good 3/4 inch incision an inch outside my smile in the fleshy part.I knew I did a number the moment it hit and I bled immediately. I grabbed some TP as a temp since it was just my third stroke on the first pass. Finished my pass and the TP was soaked. pulled ot, wiped the wound and styptic. It stopped all bleeding and I finished my shave, applied AS and went on.
Its been 24 hours and I now have a well define "trench" instead of a scab. Does anyone know if this will remain as a scar this way or go through the normal healing and result in a faint line. Right now it stands out pretty nicely.
Thanks,
Alspman

Thanked: 416I think you will be fine. Most Straight Razor wounds heal very cleanly with little left behind except humility. And if it did scar a little well CHICKS DIG SCARS!

Keep that covered 24/7 with antibiotic ointment if you don't want a scar.
You can go with or without a bandage, but depending on how bad it is (and how badly you don't want a scar), you might have to grab some of your kid's Spongebob Band-aids, and wear it with pride.

Thanked: 132Sorry Alpsman...that stings! I wanged the base of my neck, where it transitions into the shoulder/collarbone area, a couple months ago...it was probably 3/4 to an 1" long and pretty deep, like yours. I just stypticed it and waited to see how it would go.
There is no scar or mark to see now. I think, given the cleaness of a razor cut, the likelyhood of a scar is just about zero.

Thanked: 234nice incision scar? You mean the one you got in a bar fight with a 50 strong mob armed with little more than a handful of peanuts and a stomach full of beer?
I reckon it will heal clean, if not there are all sorts of products out there to shift scars. A friend of mine shifted a pretty ugly burn scar on his arm with 'bio oil' or something, amazing stuff.

You guys are too much! Cool,
Hey Doc, my wife might not appreciate the self-inflicted "lure". She already thinks I have lost it with, "All this straight razor craziness!" He he . . ..
Thanks.Last edited by Alpsman; 05-22-2009 at 11:31 PM.

Thanked: 124I've done that several times. In my case, the scars have all faded to the point of near invisibility, but it takes a long time. (Sometimes many months). I use vitamin E oil on them, which is available at the drug store in little gel capsules which you can poke with a pin & squeeze out the oil.
My worst one is from early in my learning curve. It was REALLY REALLY BAD. Now I have to be in the right light to even see it, and even then it's barely visible.

Thanked: 29But giving medical advice when you are not a doctor can open you up to serious liability.
On a side note, many people believe that over sterilized environments do not promote good health and good healing. In animals we used petroleum jelly and cover a would many times to avoid scarring. The moisture stimulated cell migration to the center of the wound as a method of avoiding collagen fiber formation(scar tissue). Sun, moving air, peroxide, sterile environment, and vitamin E all show signs of increasing scar tissue formation. Over 30% of people have an allergic reaction to vitamin E oil and many of them never know it but the body responds by forming collagen fiber.
