    Default Traveling

Not sure if this is the best spot to put this thread.

I am leaving on a flight to Orlando on Friday. Since the trip will be only for the weekend, I plan to only take a cary on. How can I travel with my straight with a cary on? I can't go without shaving.

The only way to travel like this is to check the baggage.

Whiskers is right. If you tried to carry it on, they would take it and you may be barred from flying again.

I would suggest starting a new tradition, growing out your beard every time you travel.

Another option, if you know where you will be staying when you arrive in Orlando, is to securely pack your razor and mail it to yourself.

I would only do this if I had spoken to the manager of the hotel (I'm assuming you're staying at a hotel) and explained the situation, and confirmed that they would receive and hold the package for me. A small parcel shipped via UPS isn't but a few dollars, and allows you to track the package.

Doing it this way you can also ship your soap or cream, after shave, etc., and you don't have to worry about security saying that your toiletries are too large and must be repackage in smaller travel sizes.

If you don't like the thought of shipping the razor and supplies you could always buy and take a shavette with you. Just purchase blades in Orlando.

Interesting topic. Would one or more of you guys be interested in populating Traveling with a straight razor - Straight Razor Place Wiki I think there is a certain need for such an article.

    Thanks

I can not think of a better excuse to buy another razor in Orlando, and then post it back home...

I've done some domestic and international flying with straight razors.

I've never had a problem because I packed the razors in checked bags.

I guess I could write up a bit about flying with razors.

    Edit:

I've done the mail ahead trick as well. It works great when everyone (hotel managers) are expecting a package. Its not very common for people to do this, believe it or not. So, the hotel staff is usually quite helpful because it is something out of the ordinary for them.

I fly quite a bit and have always checked my straights. There's no way around it. I believe one can take a DE as carry-on, so I'm considering picking up one of those too, as a replacement for trips.
