    Default Lathering WTG, ATG.....

Lately i have been pondering, and putting into effect a new idea: I have been applying the lather in the same direction as my shave pass, i.e.- going WTG, I also go WTG with the brush when lathering. Going ATG, I do likewise.

My theory is that you want the lather to lube right up to the base of the hair shaft, to provide the ultimate in shave ease and comfort.

In practice, I haven't noticed much, if any difference, but figured I'd throw it up there for the sake of possible discussion anyhow...

    Default Lathering WTG, ATG . . .

    My dear Seraphim,

Might one question, then, if facial hair grows at 100 percent in the same direction at any angle?

    Regards,

    Obie

I don't usually break out the protractor when estimating whisker growth patterns.

I would wonder if the best way to lather would just be ATG with every pass. This would be much like stretching and just get the hairs standing up better.

I lather ATG. I figure it helps the lather get under the whiskers by the root.

Meaning that I massage the lather onto my face using swirling motions with my brush and smooth it out going ATG. I mostly use creams but have some more TGQ soap on order.

Sorry to jump on your post, but for me there is nothing about a soft badger brush, nor creamy, foamy lather that makes my whiskers stand up anymore than they already do (mine lay quite flat against my face). I believe that idea of the brush "standing up" your whiskers is yet another of the wetshaving fables along with letting your razor "rest" for 24 hours, canvas stroppping heating the blade, etc, etc....

Although there is a slim chance that I could be quite wrong

Lather in a circular motion this:

    1) raises the hair so it will cut easier
    2) packs lather between the hair to keep it standing up
    3) stimulates the skin to minimize irritation.

    You know Seraphim,
I like when a man solves for vector forces when applying lather. But I mostly just slop it on!!
