Just to clarify something, I was shaving with my regular Gillette Fusion and really didnt want to use the straight because I knew that it needed to be honed but i just couldn't resist and just had to try it out. I may have shaved a grand total of 1.5 square inches of skin with the straight and then went back to the Gillette loll I just got it honed to perfection by Max yesterday and will be using it for a full shave over the weekend when i have more time. I'll post about the results of my first proper shave when I finally get it done
And a word about the honemeister Max: Very nice guy, very knowledgeable and willing to help. If you have a razor that needs to be honed, you can rest assured that they will be in very good hands with him! Once i get a hang of this shaving thing I will most definitely be getting one of his beautifully restored vintage razors!!
Thank you Max and everyone else on here for all of your help and advice!

I think this must be a personality trait that goes one way or the other.
For instance, my sons worry about every conceivable thing (they take after me), and my daughters just hop right in and tackle new things without giving them a second thought.

Usually, it's my imagination that hampers me. I was quite nervous at the start of my first shave just because my brain kept telling me all the ways it could go wrong!

I'm still amazed that I can cut myself and not feel it at all. Fortunately, I'm getting a lot better at not doing that. My worst cut so far was on my finger, from not paying adequate attention to the blade as I passed it from one hand to the other. Never did that again!

I started the new year with my first almost full straight razor shave and on that note happy new year to you all. my razor does 2 things quite well: shave and cut! i nicked myself in about 3 or 4 places but overall it was an ok shave I guess. I definitely have alot of work to do and I need alot of practice but I do like....A LOT!! I did end up using my Gillette at the end when i was doing my ATG pass though but that's alright with me. Got to learn to walk before i can run, right?

Honed or not, that thing is sharp as hell and does shave. I must say that it was much more difficult and scary than I anticipated. Still fun and exciting though! I can't wait to get it properly honed and try to do a full shave with it!
My first straight is a TAOS with stainless steel scales. I will say it was sharp, but not quite "shave ready" out of the box. I sent it to Lynn and now it's a great shaver.

I'm dropping off two razors to Max this week. He's only a couple of miles from me. I can't wait to see his workshop. The razors he restores are turned into works of art.

Speaking of Vegas, we just might have enough members for a Vegas meet.

True that. I'm seeing a slow increase in locals, both at SRP and locals calling me. Adding yourself to our Google map is also a great way to show your state/city presence.
