The challenge, being self sufficient, the nostalgia.

Something that was passed down to me by my father, I in return plan to pass it along to my son.

I will say that there was a spell when I used a safety razor instead of a straight, but none the less, I came back.

Mock 3 left me bleeding, and was never close enough...
When I was a teenager, I had an old buck knife that gave me better shaves that a disposable... But my hair grew too thick for a knife.
I'd always wanted to shave with straights, but information was not easy to find... Then Lynn came along with SRP... I can't tell you how long I lurked on the site reading and learning before I finally signed up.

The nostalgia was always there, but getting a good servicable blade, and learning to use it wasn't available until I found SRP

    Default What made me switch?

    A) The constant ingrown hairs and pimples from the Mach 3!
    B) Always told that if I wanted the best shave, then I need to learn to straight shave. Thanks old timers!
    C) The price of cartridges skyrocketing and the taking advantage of consumers.
    D) The excessive multi blades Marketing scheme.

Switching to Staight Shaving was the best personal decision I made for myself in January 2009!

My face has never looked better!

    Someone has said it before:

I like old stuff. I really like old stuff that works!!!

I also love knives, and I REALLY love sharpening knives. (anything actually)

    I like being different.

I like doing things that require an acquired skill (not a difficult skill per say)

So it was a natural progression.

First shaving was with an evil electric. That was just hideous.
Then came the DE's. Much better, but still not great. Also quite expensive.

Then after many years, found the SB.
The shaves have been much better! And once it becomes more of an art (then the current newbie hacking that it currently resembles), it will definitely be a lot more fun!

I have really sensitive skin, so using these 4 and 5 blade razors never worked for me. I was always a DE guy, and I still use one from time to time. I decided to start using a straight edge for the hobby and enjoyment of it. There is something about connecting to the past that I really enjoy. I love the old world feel you get from using a straight razor. Not to mention the great shave! There is just something relaxing about taking time to build lather and take your time shaving. I also love collecting and I will soon be restoring which I hope to develop as a talent. One can only hope. So that's my story...

I have been battling with ingrown hairs and skin issues since age 14. Stra8 shaving is my final attempt at getting a close shave w/out 3 days of hell afterward. Plus, its manly and cool.
