*plop*
It actually was a COMPLETE success! The blade went clean through. Even took a sliver of the nail. He said it bled out for about half an hour and started bonding back almost immediately and he was typng with it later that same day. He took pictures, but only after he stuck it back on. Eventually the scabbing peeled right away and you can't even notice it was ever AWOL. Now that's a clean cut.
My advice is just to stick to the hanging hair test, and GO SLOW!!!

Awwwww and I was gonna try the revolutionary hanging wrist test. Had I been in his shoes, I would have bound it, put it on ice and gone to the emergency room a.s.a.p.

Not necessarily. What I described was the proper technique for dealing with amputated body-parts. I took some first aid courses (required in Serbian elementary schools and for working in Canadian labs) Still, I'm glad he got lucky.

I remember the pics of Brian's finger. Awfull, and I was sooo close geting that exposure, too...
Actually, I think Brian videos are useless, except for maybe the hone flattening one. The shaving technique is unortodox, and against all known advices, going in one pass top to bottom. Also, the honing is a bit off too, since he is doing the straight push down the stone, but let's not open that can of worms...

Never mind the fact he isn't rolling over the spine on the trip back.

Which is not ABSOLUTELY necessary if you do it carefuly. And it does seem to work for him. The guy gets it sharp enough to shave well.

Just a couple of tidbits to consider. We all hone and strop and shave and think we are the greatest but with the exception of those that have had their razors honed by some of the experts here how many of us truly know what a truly sharp razor feels like. We all think we know but everything is relative.
As a well shapened razor deteriorates unless you have a frame of reference you really do get used to it and think your doing pretty good when in fact your really getting a terrible shave. I learned that in the first phase of the experiment using especially the final 2 razors day in and out.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

And even then, it's all relative. My goal is just not to look too messy by 5pm. If I get a shave that's TOO close, I start getting in-grown hairs, so I can't get away with going against the grain. So my definition of success is:
1) Shave daily
2) Relatively injury-free
3) Clean-looking face
4) Reasonably free of irritation (that all redness is gone within 30-60min)
Ofcourse I have sensitive skin and this is based on the electric shaver standard since I find it less irritating than a disposable.
