I've had a few close calls with my tap (faucet) and that's why I do what I do now, I keep a damp facecloth over the front edge of the sink and wipe the lather on my thunb and then my thumb onto the facecloth, this has been an evolution because i used to just dip my thumb in the sink, but I found using the cloth i rinse the cloth after and it makes sink cleaning a whole lot easier.

I've been doing that for a couple of years with no issues and no chance to dull the blade.

You may be surprised at the number of blades that have come to me with faucet dings. An ounce of prevention.......

I use the sponge too after seeing his video. It works good wiping the face swarf off the blade and it keeps the blade away from chrome. Once you start dropping some coin on your razors, you want to protect those babies.

I use a wash cloth either dry or wet to wipe cream and whiskers off the blade. I wash the blade off after I'm done to make sure bacteria is free of the blade. Prefer keeping everything as clean as possible and also watch out for the blade edge near the faucet.

The wash cloth is constantly washed and my blade is never without oil when not in use.

Interesting technique. I think I'll give it a try on the next shave.

I used to rinse under the faucet until I dinged the blade on bottom of the spigot. Now I lay a washcloth on the edge of the basin and wipe off the lather.

    Default Rinse, Wipe, Strop, Oil

My routine came after one of my brand new razors developed rust spots in less than 24 hours!

After shaving, i rinse the razor in water, then I wipe the razor on a towel using a motion like stropping--the edge trails.

Then I give the blade a strop, light touch 20 on fabric and 40 on leather.

Then I put a little drop of Ballistol on each side of the blade and wipe it over the whole surface of the metal.

I store my razors in a SRP leather "7 Day Set" case.

wiping the blade=less chances of damaging in the sink
rinsing the sink=visa versa from above

Yes I have done both ;-)

I wipe as I shave and do one very careful rinse at the end. No dings for me!
