So, if spanish and square points cut so easily what is there advantage from a shaving POV?
I have a new dovo forestal which is advertised as a round point but definitely has more of a square edge on it than my other round point blades. this is the one that I have cut myself on the most lately and has got me a but spooked, especially after reading some of these posts. So again, why use spanish or square pont blades?

Thanked: 46As far as I can tell they allow greater precision when shaving around beards, moles or anything else that has/needs a defined edge. The round point is a bit less likely to take off your earlobe if you aren't watching what you're doing but it's not quite as precise. I would consider the difference to be fairly subtle and a matter of preference rather than a big issue.

+1 to what Mick said. The square point is really nice for doing work around the beard. I wear a van dyke and it's great for keeping things square.

Thanked: 485'un-co' now there's a word common to the Australian army lingo I haven't heard in YONKS!
I find it odd that square points are used for cutting around edges. I actually really never use the point. I have a Burrell that has more or a triangular point than a square, as in it actually juts out ever so slightly at the point; it's really lethal! How this is a bonus I'm not sure. Though I like it nevertheless (I'm not sure why, maybe a "I'm so brave, stupid, but brave" thing). I actually use the heel of my razor to cut around my Van dyke, though I'd like a razor with a squarer heel rather than a square toe. Some razors I've seen are more squarer at the heel than others, but none I've seen are REALLY square; can you get them? Does anyone have a picture of one? I would myself find it a little difficult to use the toe to cut around my beard, but I still lack experience; maybe when I 'get some time up' I may be able to, 'cause I've 'only been shaving since breakfast' :-)Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

Thanked: 46My old Packwood wedge has a very square heel, and I'd assume many old wedges would be more or less the same in that regard.
