Some people might think 13 is a bit young, but I was shaving at 12. In fact, my parents bought me a Remington Electric Shaver for Christmas that year. That sucked. If I knew then what I know now about shaving with a SR I would have begged for one and been the biggest bad ass in the 6th grade!

Thanked: 118If at the age of 12 you asked your parents for a straight razor, they probably would have chosen therapy instead.
Unless they were familiar with straight razor shaving themselves, they probably would have shuddered at the thought of their 12 year old holding a straight razor to his own throat.
I would think 15 or 16 a better age. But if they agreed, YES you would have been the BBA in the entire school, including the male teachers.May your lather be moist and slick, the sweep of your razor sure, and your edge always keen!

I was a hairy kid myself, started shaving around 13 I believe (24 now). Of course I only started with a SR yesterday, haha. Seems more fitting somehow to combat a dense and fast growing beard with a straight instead of a dinky throw-away cartridge.
Soon my beard will tremble in fear at the sound of stropping :P

They say you are only as old as you feel. That makes me about 110. However, it has been 42 years since I was born, been using a SR for 1 whole year.

Thanked: 12Shaving with a straight razor is having a kind of renaissance thanks to the internet. When people do searches on line to get some advice on how to shave with less irritation or what is the best shaving cream for sensitive skin or whatever else they might want to learn about shaving they start getting all sort of information and when they find out that shaving with a straight razor gives the most comfortable and closest shaves they start thinking about it and then one day they decide to take the plunge and every body uses the internet, young and old and that will only mean that people of all ages and all walk of life are getting into it.
I used to hate shaving but now I kind of like it. Still if I would wake up one morning and find out that my face had a smooth skin and that I would never had to shave again I would be delighted but until that morning arrives I'm so happy I found out about straight razors and that I persevered to master the technique.
I don't think people who get into shaving with a straight razor do it because they are old or because they are mad or because they are old fashion but because they refused to conform, they refuse to stick to something that it is not quite right and because they know that if you keep doing something the same way you will keep getting the same results.
Tell that to your friends next time that they ask you why!
