I've got 6 months under my belt it was the best/worst decision I've ever made. The RAD is amazing and the funny looks as I feel up my face are beyond worth it. It has become an all consuming hobby that I just love. Thanks to everyone here for your part in making my experience positive.

Thanked: 485Since the 6th of June this year, which makes 173 days, and a little more than 173 shaves (some days I shaved twice ). I'm SO glad I made the switch, I think I came across it (straight razor shaving) via the 'art of manliness' site. I'd also like to echo Mick's comments, there is no way I could have done it successfully without this site. The help I got in those first few hours and days from guys like Mick was really, really supportive and non-judgemental. In all honesty, I've not come across a forum where generally everyone is so helpful and supportive (and a little obsessed).
Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

Thanked: 94Bought a Parker Shavette in Feb. Got a Dovo in March of this year.
Really wish I would have know about the benefits of shaving with a straight earlier in life. Have been shaving for 18 years now and have struggled with terrible ingrown hairs and razor burn...Was convinced that I would only be able to shave with the grain and every 3 days. Then I said there has got to be a better way and found out about SR's. Wish I would have found SRP before I got my shavette, but lesson learned!

First gave it a try around fifteen years ago, but without anywhere to get advice on blade maintenance, and after having my barber tell me it was "too dangerous" when I went to him for help, I was forced to go back to my SE. After finding you good folks out here (and the folks over at B&B) I was able to finally scratch the straight razor itch, and I've now been shaving with a straight for about six months.

After over 40 years of crappy shaves I bit the bullet and got my first straight a little over one year ago. My initial reasoning was to save money. A little naive on that point as I am sure I have spent as much in the last year as I did in the previous 40 on plastic razors. The transition to shaving acquisition was assisted by my 40 year passion for pipe smoking. I very naturally shifted from obsessing about Dunhills, Ashtons and Comoys and custom blend tobaccos to Wades, Livis, Harners and specialty soaps.
My first straight was acquired through the gift of cash from my elderly mother. She was aghast that I used it to purchase sharpened steel and is still certain that my life will end in a bloody pool in the bathroom. I may have jinxed my inheritance as I am sure that she now believes that I will always use cash to further my self-destruction.
