When I first started shaving with a straight, I always listened to music...I think in part to calm my nerves and get me into a "zen" state. Now, I actually prefer silence, so I can hear the sound of the razor removing the whiskers. If I remember correctly, Obie had a great list of classical tunes he shaves to....if you're into classical

I prefer total silence. The time I'm shaving is usually the only quiet time of the day for me.

Thanked: 1185Kinda depends, during the week when I'm generally awake well before anyone in the house I do silent, very Zen shaves. On the weekends I tend to sleep a little later and shave late morning or early afternoon. Weekends I do tend to crank up some music. Anything really from classic rock to smooth jazz to classical just depending on the kind of mood I'm in.
The older I get, the better I was

Usually I shave in silence, especially when I'm in "research mode." I'll often have one thing in mind that I've worked at before or have recently picked up on the forums. I'm thinking about that thing, and trying to feel for the feedback. If I already have music or my podcasts going, I'm likely to get irritable trying to split my attention and turn them off.
If the family is up and around, though, I'll open up the bathroom door for passing conversation and to hear what-all's going on. Sort of like people who prefer to study in a coffee shop than alone in a cubicle.Keep your pivot dry!

I usually shave in complete silence, I really don't even like to hear the water running because I love the sound of the blade gliding over my skin and cutting the hairs!
its simply the BEST sound to hear after you've just honed your own blade to a prefect "shave ready" state...
i love the combination of the "pinging" sounds...along with the sight "scraping" sound as the blade slices the hairs of my face!
and the vindication that comes along with my wife standing next to me watching and cringing at the sight of the open blade on my neck, and the sounds of the hairs slicing clean off....and each and every time she says "god doesn't that hurt?!?!" but of course the BBS face, ZERO redness, and no bumps or irritation all speak for themselves haha

Music for me please. Blitzen Trapper "Black River Killer" for really good shaving ambiance, but anything on that Pandora channel will work.
