Is ambidextrous straight shaving worth it?
I really only shave with my left hand. I have heard some people talk about how it is best to shave with both hands. Left hand for left cheek and right hand for right cheek. Is it worth it to teach myself to be ambidextrous with a straight? Is the shave that much better?

Thanked: 993I think it's worth it. I taught myself to, and it does help me navigate some of the tougher areas now that both hands are capable.

It really depends how you are doing. If you can get all areas of your face with one hand equally well and you are happy then don't worry about it.
Speaking from personal experience even though I started with my left hand only and was able to get everything once I became capable with both hands I realized it was even easier using two hands.

Thanked: 30I tried to with my left hand and I just can't do it. I have no dexterity for anything practical.

I started using both hands when I first started and it was tough to learn my left hand but after over a year of shaving I find that im sometimes better and smoother with my left than my right. For me it was worth the time to learn to use both hands.

You know if you try it with the other hand, it feels like someone else is shaving you.

Thanked: 67I'm right handed, and I just don't have the ability to use my left hand with control and precision. I tried brushing my teeth left-handed, and got toothpaste over one cheek by missing my mouth. I won't be trusting that hand with a razor.
Using my right hand, I'm getting equally good shaves on both sides of my face. Still a newb, only a dozen shaves so far, but I'm not tempted to try to become ambidextrous.

It's worth giving it a try. There are parts on my right jawline that are easier to get at with the left hand. In the end, it's not necessary, but it is worth a try.

Thanked: 1195I'm not sure I'd say better, easier in places perhaps, but not better. It's worth it to give it a shot, but if it's just not happening let it be. Especially if you can shave yourself just fine with your dominant hand.
