My take on the subject is this:
A DE is very good for a few things, such as:
1)People who don't use straights. If I can't talk someone into trying a straight, you bet I'll at least try to get him to switch to a DE. I'm sure you would do the same. A DE beats modern multi-blade/pressure oriented razors any day.
2)People who, for a given shave, don't have the time to use a straight. You could be late for work, or someone else wants the washroom and is rushing you to finish. Shaving in these incidents can cause so you have a lapse in concentration, creating opportunities for cuts.
3)People who are learning (be it anywhere from complete noob to "pretty much good" or "almost mastered the art"), and want an option for an "easier" shave on a given day, or wish to use it to finish up, etc.
Have I missed anything?

Unless you're not using a particular razor for a while, you don't need to oil it. I just have a rotation of two razors at the moment, and alternate between them. I also can't see you wearing our a razor unless you for some reason are constantly honing your razor...which you shouldn't have to do once you've got your shaving technique down pat. As for drying or polishing, the same can be said about a DE...it's actually more work to dry off my DE properly

I worry for water stains, not so much rust because I dry my razors well and blow-dry them too before oiling. But sometimes with every shave I keep feeling that my blade is incrementally tarnished every time with tiny faint dots I don't know :s
But as someone who doesn't own stones and lives in a country where you can't send out your razors for professional honing, I guess the more I put in some the DE shaves in the middle I'll be able to enjoy my straights for longer. But that's off topic lol guess main idea the member started this thread is related to us newbies who haven't mastered the art of straights yet and feel tempted to use DEs before finishing off.
As of today I no longer feel the need to do that anymore my face feels raw but no wounds guess it just takes time that's all

UKRob I remember you once offering to help honing my Wacker, which was very nice of you. I managed to get it done finally.
But generally speaking, Middle Eastern countries are not very package/shipping friendly. Usually holding items in customs forever and if they don't get lost they charge you an arm and a leg for their release.
So before I permanently leave the Uk and won't know when and if I am coming back, guess will make sure to buy some stones and learn how to hone myself.

Thanked: 127Sometimes i use, or better i have to use a DE/SE for a touch-up after shaving with the Straight,
but usually this happens only after using a new Straight without practise or testing Straights.

Unless you are new to SR, there should be no need to touch up with a DE. If there is, you might as well simply use a DE since it is providing a better shave than the SR.
