Question for those who use the black oil applicator: how much oil do you put in the bottom? And how "soft" should the tip be?

I put some camellia oil in the bottom and the wicky/tip is still stiff so it leaves an uneven coat on the blade. Wanted to see if my tip was normal or if I needed more oil. (Consequently, I also asked this question on prom night.)

    Thanks!

I had the bright idea to get an envelope moistener from Staples because they were really cheap and I didn't want to pay shipping cost on one dumb black bottle. So I put the mineral oil in the bottle and a couple of days later the sponge came loose from the bottle... You get what you pay for. Anyway...I still keep the little sponge on top of the bottle and when I am ready to oil the blade, I moisten the sponge with the mineral oil and apply it to the blade.

Btw, does anyone use sewing machine oil on their razors?

I use the envelope moistener also, but I've had better luck than you. Mine has lasted many many shaves and oil applications.
