Default What is it with shaving 3 day stubble

Why is it if I wait 3 or four days till I am looking really shaggy the shave goes incredibly smooth.

1 pass ATG BBS without much touchups or overlapping.

I know it is observed by others but anyone ever run across the topic in old Barber's Manuals or lore or just what's up with that?

It is too much fun shaving now to deliberately stretch a shave 3 days.....I miss too much time with my blade.

The hairs think they are safe, and they relax a little.

I think that when you wait three days for the next shave, your face has time to recover. The impact of a sharp edge on your skin should not be underestimated.

If I would shave every day, I could not go as deep into my face as I want because my skin is still too sensitive. I rather shave every third day with optimal result than shaving daily and not being satisfied with the outcome.

Well if I had razor burn or nicks or such then I wouldn't care to use the razor. The facial skin in both cases it quite alright. The manner in which the whiskers leave my face is what changes. They jump onto the blade effortlessly when they are longer and leave no traces. When I shave daily it takes extra effort stretching and making multiply passes and there always seem to be leftovers. The only variable observed is longer whiskers seem to shave off easier and closer to the skin than shorter whiskers.

I shave almost every day, but sometimes I skip a shave on my day off. The following day, my shave is even more comfortable because my skin has had time to "heal" from the fine surface layer being scraped off during the shave.

Perhaps when the stubble is short the blade can escape through the end of the hair? A longer hair cannot allow this so it cuts instead.

I think whats happening is these old guys faces are just one big callus! Us young guys still have tender skin like a baby's butt. We need time to recover after a shave!

If you doubt the "recover" statement put a skin conditioner on your face before going to bed.

I am able to do a 4 pass shave and use alcohol with little or no burning and I do shave every day. Technique has a lot to do with how much skin damage is done when using a straight.

I should have said aftershaves that contain alcohol. Kinda a little understood slang. Sorry.
