I don't think Hirlau's razor exorcisions are recognized by any organized entity. He DOES go by other names in various tongues!

Is my razor cursed??
Funny stuff. Not funny though is the cut I got from this bad boy several hours ago, just broke open and started bleeding again. Fun stuff!

Oh I hear ya! In my case, I have had a few like that. I eventually learned that some have the "too sharp" issue of teeny micro-serrations from honing. Blade is sharp. Cannot see the buggers. But once one little serration digs in, the blade just follows! Cut!
Big cure for me is to give it 20 strokes on CroOx pasted strop to rid it of those little buggers and strop it good on leather.
A smooth edge will not do this. JMO, YMMV.

Yes it is cursed and for a small fee (har har) I can take the curse off for you.
I used to always cut myself with my Dovo BL for some strange reason. That hasn't happened in years however I still have to be real careful with my red Imp. Just a moments inattentiveness and Pow-Zowee I got the red badge or courage. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Thanked: 22I'm also of the school of thought that a significant change in the size of the razor may be to blame. For example, I rarely if ever nick myself. Well, about a week ago I grabbed a very small 4/8 razor and nicked myself 2 + times! In all fairness it may have been in need of a stropping or maybe even a honing. I really couldn't remember if it needed either. So I just put it on my desk to make sure it gets both before I put it away again. Of course, it's still sitting there.

I'd just get rid of it. I find I shave better with heavier grind razors also. It just depends on how many times you are willing to get cut. With time I am sure you will adjust your technique to the razor, why not just find another similar razor to the two you have that you are happy with. -Scott

Thanked: 116I had two beautiful vintage king cutters. 5/8 square and 6/8 round. Sold both of them as they always seemed to bite me on my jaw line.

I had a Henckels 7/8 that drew blood on every shave for 6 months. I tried everything including honing it, sending it out to be honed and lastly muting the square point. A couple weeks ago, I decided to sell my Vampire. Because it had the original scales and they were a bit worn, I decided to make some horn scales to get a little more money on eBay. The scales came out beautiful and I figured I'd give the razor one last try.
It's been 4 shaves since and no blood. I don't know if, in my hand, I needed a weightier set of scales or if this is psychological, but it worked.
