Is my razor cursed??
Does anyone else have a particular razor that seems to always cut them? And deep cuts too? I have 3 razors in my rotation and with two of them, I always get a good shave with little irritation and cuts. One, however, always finds a ay to get me good. The only thing different about this particular blade is that it is an extra hollow grind, so maybe that's what it is. My other two are half hollow.
For whatever reason, I keep going back to the cursed razor though to give it another shot, but yet again this morning, it bit me good. It's plenty sharp, just as much so as my other two, so I know that isn't the problem. Is this common to have one particular razor that maybe has a significantly higher learning curve, etc?Classic, traditional Barber and owner at Barber's Notch in Brigham City, Utah.

Extra hollow ground razors are just a bit more unforgiving when it comes to technique. If you make even a small mistake with technique with a extra hollow blade your more likely to cut yourself.
I bet if you committed your self to just using that razor for a couple weeks it will give you as good a shave as the other blades you have.

Re: Is my razor cursed??
I find if the blade is a little longer than usual like the DD's and square point to boot I have to pay attention a little more than usual if not they will always take a nip out of me.

Thanked: 480Fiudor 451. I have owned 5. (still own 3) each and every one has cut me repeatedly. And yet, I still shave with them!

Thanked: 2284I had a razor that kept cutting me. That B#stard hated me!! It was a razor tagged spartacus on the blade and had, made in Germany on the tang. The razor Itself was confused, as to who it actually was anyways. I warned it and warned it! It didn't listen so I sold him cheap, just to prove a point to it!!!

Funny stuff. Not funny though is the cut I got from this bad boy several hours ago, just broke open and started bleeding again. Fun stuff!

Oh I hear ya! In my case, I have had a few like that. I eventually learned that some have the "too sharp" issue of teeny micro-serrations from honing. Blade is sharp. Cannot see the buggers. But once one little serration digs in, the blade just follows! Cut!
Big cure for me is to give it 20 strokes on CroOx pasted strop to rid it of those little buggers and strop it good on leather.
A smooth edge will not do this. JMO, YMMV.
