Nice looking razor! I also really like that mug. Have you tried shaving again since your first go? If so, did it go better? Keep in mind it can only get better from here... My first few shaves sucked but after that all was well.

Dead on with the water and more water for Williams. I looked for it, but couldn't find, a thread by somebody on how to build lather with Williams soap. After trying it, I gained a new found respect for Williams. You'll end up with more lather, and good lather, than you'll know what to do with.

KidFitzz, kudos on your shave set! I love the Old Spice mugs, and the fact that it was your Grandfather's makes it even more special.

It looks like your tip has been muted, so it's not quite as bitey as a fully square point. I have one square point blade that's unmuted, and I might as well pull an X-acto across my face. But still, be careful and enjoy!

My lather really sucked yesterday and I'll probably end up buying some tabac or Taylor of Old Bond Street. Right now I have Williams mug soap which I thought was great for a dollar... Good practice for lather though!
    Thanks for the advice!
I honestly find willams to be crap. It's very drying, in my opinion, so i ditched it for shaving and use it to wash my face and armpits in the shower LOL

I use Proraso cream in as tube as well as Proraso pre/post shave cream. I'm prob going to get some DR Harris cream at some point, I hear it's lubrication is magical!

2nd shave this morning went well, I got the williams to lather up a bit more nicely with more whipping and more water (thanks to the people who suggested that) I have found that williams is controversial topic, I have to say that I am on the *Pro Williams* side, just because it's so cheap and It takes more skill to use. Skill being one of the reasons I thought cut-throat shaving would be cool-because not everyone has the patience to learn.

Back to my shave, it went well i did my whole upper face today, though i barely nicked myself on my left hand side by the mouth, nothing noticeable by the end of the day! I am still tedious with my neck i'd like to be able to make a better lather as my skin is kinda soft down there, and shaving before with razors irritated it. Looking forward to tomorrows shave!

Aside from Fine Williams, anyone else has any suggestions for soaps? creams? it wouldn't mind picking up someones odd favorite just to try it out. I really am thinking about ordering a taylor of old bond street, the name is just appealing to me. Any good scent suggestions there?

    Thanks again everyone!

    Just collect every kind
It's not the lathering of Williams that I personally don't like, it just dries my skin out too much haha but everyone's skin is different so if it works for you, awesome!
I really want to try as many kinds of soaps and creams as I can get my hands on, personally. I'm even having a custom lather bowl made for me at a pottery shop around the corner from my house! I really like how the bulldog mugs on SRD have that swirl pattern in the bottom of them to help build lather so I'm taking that one step further in the one being made for me...that way I can make an insane amount of lather with any product on the planet haha

I agree with just getting and trying every kind you come across. In the world of soaps and cremes, theres literally hundreds of choices in all kinds of prices. I would suggest setting yourself a price limit, at least for the time being, per item that you wouldnt mind spending on any single product, then buy anything you can afford in that range that strikes your fancy.

Soaps and Cremes are just another acquisition disorder to contend with in the world of wet shaving.
