Welcome to Straight Razor Place, good to have you with us.
The problem with razor bumps is well known, but if words fail to persuade, perhaps they will take your own skin condition as proof of your words

Nativeson, Good post! Your mention of African-Americans in the past having clear skin piques my curiosity. Do you know what/how they were shaving in the past? It sounds like your Grandfather used a straight razor, but were straights common among African-Americans then. I am also curious about traditional techniques from Africa. Going along with what you said in your post, most of the African men I have met had smooth, blemish free faces.
Concerning getting your friends into wet shaving...The suggestions put forth by other members are good advice. The only thing I can add is to include some Miles Davis-something mellow.
And love the term plastic devil.

Welcome to SRP Nativeson, Very interesting first post to say the least, the best way to convince your friends is to show them the results. Having a family heirloom like your grand fathers straight is wonderful, treasure it! Of course African American were using straights at some point in time,
there was no other choices, untill the safety razor came in the picture. Further more some even made it a business selling strops at the turn of the century!

I wouldn't bother trying win them over. Straight shaving isn't for most. Once your compadres know you use a straight those who have interest will seek you out.

Welcome to SRP. Seems we are an unusual group of folks. Of all those non straight razor shavers I've known, made the acquaintance of, none of them have even asked about it. When I tell them I shave with old straight razors and collect them they give me a curious look.

Welcome to the forum. You might point out that using any single blade shaving method will reduce or eliminate razor bumps. DEs, SEs, straights and shavettes will all be better than cartridges. I started with DEs and got hooked. Now shave with all of the above (except carts).

Welcome Nativeson. There's an expression on the forum. "If there are no pictures, it didn't happen." Let's see some shots of Gramps razor. It's all about the razor porn here.
