Default African American Wet Shaver in da House!!!

Longtime lurker, brand new member. This site has been a godsend for a cat like me. Been on the "straight and narrow" for about six months now. Made all the bonehead beginner mistakes (first straight was bought in a beauty supply store, paid no heed to pre-shave ritual, didn't take the time to clock my beard growth, etc...), but now I've settled into a righteous groove, baby! An offhand remark to my dad a few months ago about my religious conversion from the store bought plastic devils resulted in him hunting down my grandfather's straight and sending it to me. There's nothing quite like a legacy shave, jack. Anyway, I've been trying to spread the gospel of the cutthroat to my African American bros, but all I get is the "razor bump" whines. I counter with telling them to check out any photos of African Americans from about 80-100 years back. I dare them to find any of those soul brothers with anything resembling razor bumps. Not in the glory days of the straight, they won't. Magic Shave, Bumpstopper, and all the other quackery marketed to us can't stand up to the might of a well-honed, properly stropped piece of steel. So, I ask you fine gentlemen of the facial sword, what more can I do to convince them to join this most hallowed of fraternities?

Welcome NativeSon-I like your style. If you want to turn your AA brothers on to wet shaving with a straight, maybe show them a really cool straight, or whip up a batch of your best-smelling lather and let them try it. For me, a big part of the appeal is in all of the incredible soaps, creams, aftershaves, and the dizzying array of stylish razors. Or have your lady rub your Freshly-shaved face in front of them and talk about how smooth a straight leaves you.

Welcome to the forum. That's a very entertaining post, I'm very glad you have settled into a righteous groove.
I guess the best thing for you to do is advertise a smooth well shaves face. I honestly can't think of too many things that are as cool as standing at a shave stand in one's singlet, playing some jazz, maybe sipping a glass of Chardonnay or a German beer, with lather being wiped from one's face by a deadly sharp but smooth piece of vintage steel. One's coolness score is increased tremendously immediately.

    Welcome!!
I feel the same way about those "store bought plastic devils", I haven't had razor burn since I switched five year ago.

I have several friends trying out straight razors right now. I lend them one to try and if they like it then I tell them what they need to do next. So far nobody is giving up and the word is spreading. It's a better shave, can cost less in the long run so it's smarter, James Bond does it so it's got to be cool. Not ever body is courageous enough to shave like a real man.

    Welcome and Amen !

Just be an example. Eventually they'll begin to see it as long as you keep looking as good as you do lol.

Woohoo! Preach it. Welcome aboard, my friend. I like your style. Sometimes the best way to lead is by example. Close friends & family will notice your clear, healthy skin. When they finally break down & ask why the ladies aren't caressing their razor bumpiness, then reluctantly let them in on the straight razor experience. It helps to pretend it's top secret b/c nothing spreads faster than a big juicy secret.
