I am a reserve military member. I have a couple friends that have the Psudofeliculitus barbe and are on shaving wavers (not all african americans). They have been on wavers for years. One of these gentlemen a few years back decided to heed my advice and start shaving with a straight. Razor bumps gone! He left the unit shortly after that and we are constantly getting young troops with the same problem, mostly young african american. I tell it how I always tell it and I get the same thing....Razor bumps bro I can not put a blade on my face. I am just waiting for one of them to bite on it, but they havent yet. Last weekend I tried to get one of my oldest friends to shave with a straight, and he was getting mad. He told me a white man shouldnt be telling a black man how to shave. I have been after him for years now, and I can see how he could be irritated. I told him ok and let it be. I guess in one sense if more african american males were shaving with a straight razor as an example there would be more of a following. But for now I think ill just keep picking at them slowly. Great to have ya NativeSon-

Thanked: 2027This is an interesting topic, wellcome to SRP nativeson, enjoy the ride man.
I have a lifelong best friend who is african american,he has a major problem with so called razor bumps on his neck.
The problem will not be solved by using a straight to shave with,I would never recomend he do so.
The problem is caused in certain ethnic groups that have tightly coiled hair,People of african heritage, hispanics,Italians etc.
Not making any broad statements here, but perhaps some people cannot shave with a straight.

Welcome Nativeson!
I am Hispanic and just as you had a problem with razor bumps. Been shaving with SRs now for about 5 months and the bumps are a thing of the past. The SR underground is full of generous folks, cool paraphernalia and wonderful aromas. I am here to stay and I know you will too.

Thanked: 3Wow! That is the coolest! Please tell me how I can acquire a copy of that advertisement. I'd love to frame that up in my fortress of solitude. And is there more of similar items out? Like AA companies who produced any shave related products.

Thanked: 443Been off the site a few days, back now and telling you Welcome! The thing that causes shaving bumps are those multiblade "lift and cut" disposables. They pull the hair out so far that the shaved butt drops back below the skin surface, and you heal over the top, and the hair can't get out to grow... but it still grows, sets up a little infection, etc.
Like everyone's said, the best way to spread the word is to live the example. Best wishes and happy shaving!"These aren't the droids you're looking for." "These aren't the droids we're looking for." "He can go about his business." "You can go about your business."

Thanked: 270Agree with your definition of plastic devils and quackery. All that stuff really tore up my face.

Like the ship calking gangs of old, it was found that African Americans were the best so could this mean we will be asking you for advise in the future
Bumps go when the face gets used to it or should that be, when the skill grows.
Welcome Nativeson

Thanked: 270I want to congratulate all the members for not making a race issue of this discussion because I have seen this happen in another venue. It is irritating to be told you aren't qualified to offer an opinion and see three tense pages of posting follow. This has no place in a shaving discussion.
In this instance, we debunked everything that occurred there. The OP's experience was identical to mine and he and I independently arrived at the same solution.
Those plastic devils and quackery can sure cause mischief...
In more ways than one we said what needed to be said. At one time I was a teacher so I will give the SRP community an A+

Welcome to the 'Place'. Refreshing post.
My only advice. Don't push too hard when it comes to converting others. Mostly it just happens when one is ready & frustrated enough with other ways.
Just lead by example or 'Look the part, be the part...' Another fan of 'The Wire" here. The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.
