Thanked: 1371Here's the Dahlgren frameback; it's one of the better shavers in my collection. I was a little nervous about ruining it, but already had it out of the scales and I wanted to see if the pitting would cover, and if the maker's mark would show through.
I coated this with a dark red matte.
Anything deep still shows up through the powder coat. The lighter stuff gets covered.
Honing wasn't too bad once I wore the coating off the spine. I suppose I could have used tape, and left the whole thing coated, but for my razors I prefer honing without tape.

Wow, this is something completely new, and from the looks of it, practical. No oil necessary, no storage concerns, and since it hones and shaves, I think you've found a niche that you might turn into a nice cottage industry. I know I would pay you for it!

This could put into use severely pitted razors that still have good steel at the edge.

I think removing the frame part and doing it in chrome, or polishing the brass, or something like that would look really good. That's not to say I dislike it now, but it would remove the "should I tape it to stop the powder coat coming off" question.

I like the look and idea, especially on the DE. It looks good on the straight, but I probably would have honed with tape. To each their own. It definitely has a certain appeal to it.

I think I also prefer the gloss finish, though I realise that on a badly pitted razor it would.make.tge pits show up more potentially.
Gloss cherry or candy apple red, chrome frame and white scales would have a really 1950's hot rod sort of feel I think, not that I really know anything much about 1950's hot rods.Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast
