Scales on the Griffin might be hard rubber. It oxidizes and turns ugly and dull. I've polished several back to shiny black with nothing more that Mother's Mag and Aluminum polish.

Stinks a bit, but that goes away with the dull.

Yup! Using the metal polish sometimes does wonders on plastics and rubber based scales!! I've used it successfully but I've always followed up with the 3M Lens and Hard Plastic Cleaner and then the Bumper Black. Just different strokes for different folks!

I usually hit scales with a quick buff of metal polish but I had no clue what these were and I could just see in my mind's eye the scales melting away with a puff of smoke and the voice of McBain in the background going: "Ze goggles! Zey do nassing!"
