Finally gave in to temptation and ordered a Dan's surgical black Arkansas stone 8x2x1/2".

Excellent choice. You will get many lifetimes worth of good use from that stone.

    Cant go wrong with that.
Now you get to try the different levels of keenness by burning the face. I think I liked 800 grit on mine for finishing.

Yeah, I can't remember where I ended on the fine side. But I think it was 400 SIC on the rough side and either 600 or 800 W/D on the fine side. You don't want to go too fine.
800 wet dry is plenty fine for that stone. If you go too fine it makes it too slow

Sometimes the seller will go all Vito Corleone and make you an offer you can't refuse. This one as an example. They made me an offer over 70% off their asking price. It was so much of a deal I was skeptical and scoured the pics looking for flaws, cracks, chips...anything. Finally took a chance and pulled the cord. Couldn't find any but...... 'spose we'll see for sure when it arrives

A very nice looking razor going by the photos you posted. I think I'd check the heel at the back side as you may have to reshape the heel. The shoulder on the back side looks like it is almost touching the edge but not so on the front side. Hard to tell from photos so it may be nothing.

Yeah, I thought that too. It seems like, as you say, the stabilizer on the non show side may be a little forward of the one on the show side. Surprising how many are like that, even famous name brands.

First a cleansing, then a sharpie test. After that any corrections will be done before a thorough honing. My understanding of Puma is that their workmanship is pretty top notch. They sure look good so I'm thinking it will likely be minimal from what I can see. Fingers crossed. I'm still waiting for the other shoe to fall with that big price reduction. A crack is what I'm most worried about. I looked pretty darn close. It was a 100% positive seller so I'm thinking it was just wanting to make a sale.
