Just did a quick search on the topic of felt. Seems some of the problem lies in metal chests. The wood ones don't seem as prone. I'll certainly keep an eye on them.
And in some of the cases a tool such as a plane sole would rust because moisture was trapped between the tool and the metal drawer. Wood wicks to some extent and can" breathe". As long as moisture isn't getting trapped , and none of my pieces presents this situation I think it shouldn't be a problem .

Wool is good at wicking water, good insulator, wears well but stains and is prone to insect damage. Acrylic is extremely cleanable, doesn't rot, get eaten by insects or fade. As to promoting rust...that takes the presence of moisture. Either one will hold it next to your precious razors if it is present...so keep things dry and use desiccant packs.
The easy road is rarely rewarding.

Thanks for the info and concern. Since most pieces are basically in long term storage till I work through my rotation they get a coat of Rem-oil. I figure if it's good enough for museums and firearm collections it would work on my razors.

Hehehe,,, not EXACTLY true but the 3 DDs that came in today ( Goldedge sq.tip . Satinwedge and a Satinedge) will increase my flock of those. Still need the Reaper. And the Red Imp , F Reynold, Blue Steel , and an assortment of others thinned the pickings a little. Just trying to save you the hassle of getting them.
Sorry guys .Last edited by mycarver; 05-27-2014 at 06:13 PM.
