Judging by the conditions, I would say he used them until they didn't shave as well as he liked, and back then they were cheap enough that it paid to simply buy a new one. The old ones were put in a drawer, (just like I still do today) with the intention of "I will give that a proper sharpening later"

Well, NOW is later! There are some very nice blades in that collection. Treat them well and they will certainly be around for generations to come.
Obviously, some are more collectible, some more valuable than others, but as a family heirloom they are nothing short of priceless.
If you decide to start restoring them on your own, do yourself a huge favor and pick up a beater razor you will not care about if you mess up, and practice on it first.
    Good luck with them all

:Really nice haul and priceless with them belonging to your granddad

Its already been said but deffinatly record/mark them in some way. The reason is you are starting to show the early symptoms of RAD. This onset of RAD is extremely rapid and once symptoms show its almost impossible to stop. Early signs include saying things like "it might become my new hobby" and casually browsing eBay for. "Old razors" or "vintage razors".

Once RAD takes hold you will quickly have more razors than you could use in ten lifetimes. Like many others on this site, I have found myself infected with RAD. Only this week I have 3 more razors heading my way and its only Monday!

There is no known cure for RAD though long term sufferers have reported that in time, the symptoms do subside. Unfortunately at that stage the unfortunate souls who are infected with this debilitating desease are surrounded by boxes and boxes of rusty razors waiting to be restored.

It is worth pointing out that once infected with RAD your immunity to deseases such as HAD and SAD is lowered to dangerous levels. It is not uncommon for sufferers of RAD to ultimately end up crippled with multiple AD desieses. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
