    Default Even better in person!

Some of you may have read my previous post, but here's the update: the razor arrived today, and the seller's photos didn't do it justice!

The gold wash is in much better condition than I had thought, especially on the spine and tang. And there's little or no hone wear; I'm wondering if it's ever been honed? The only significant corrosion is at the edge itself... I hope that's fixable... a small area on the spine, and on the monkey tail; both blade faces are excellent except for minimal speckling. The front scale is slightly warped where the logo is, so the toe needs to be guided in. And the box is nearly pristine. Although it wasn't advertised as such, I wonder if this is NOS?

Stunning. Love the gold wash, the etching, and especially the spine work. Looks pretty much unused except for that small speckling of rust. Great score!

    Looks fantastic...
Look carefully inside the scales. This can sometimes tell you a little about use.

Tape to the spine, a trip to the hones and a chance to do the meaningful work it was built for..

    Smooth Shaving...

What will I be looking for...soap residue, etc.?

I agree! My intent has always been to use all of my razors, and this one is no exception. I haven't graduated beyond the barber's hone stage, so this razor will definitely be going out to a honemeister; that edge needs an expert's attention, don't you think?

Now that I've seen how good the condition is, I'm afraid to do any cleaning out of concern for the gold wash. The back side of the spine appears to need the most attention, but... perhaps I should leave well enough alone?

Stay. Away from the gold wash. You can use mass on the eraser tip of a pencil to clean the non colored areas. Honing will get rid of what's on the edge
