A member here, who also lives in Toronto, did the full restore on this blade...it looked much like yours, scales shot, so he went for a classic, traditional scale design in black horn, and I like a mirror polish...love these blades!
Great thing about this hobby, taking something that's 200 years old, and not only restoring it back to close to original, but then actually using it again...awesome!

I was watching that one too and like Phrank, if I hadn't already make other purchases, I would have thrown a bid down as well. Nice to see it's stayed "in the family".

Looks like it has great lines... if you can keep them after cleaning her up.
I have one that was reground a bit, and I'm actually not wild about how it shaves. I do love the big blades, though.

So a pleasant surprise when I walked into work this morning….i know i know i'm at work on memorial day weekend…but a package was sitting in my chair. Of course it was the GB. The photos taken by the owner were really poor. It almost looked like there were craters in the thing. But it's just mostly surface black stuff. so I am sure that even i with no real prior experience, dremels or power tools can get this thing to a satiny shine. No sure how much work i'll get done today but the GB definitely takes precedence. I've already gone to Duane Reade and got some EZ Off Heavy Duty Cleaner, scouring pads and some Sapporo Beer to drink while I let the EZ off do it's thing.
The EZ OFF removed the color from the scales revealing an interesting blonde "horn".
I came home and hand sanded the blade a bit better slathering it with Mothers.
Without further ado.....
