Cheetah, I was worried. It looks better after you oven-cleanered it.
Not such a 'sophisticated' restoration, that! . It looks like a clean bevel may be possible.
I know a guy who may be able to make it look presentable, perhaps even good?

The photos taken by the owner were really poor. It almost looked like there were craters in the thing. But it's just mostly surface black stuff. so I am sure that even i with no real prior experience, dremels or power tools can get this thing to a satiny shine. No sure how much work i'll get done today but the GB definitely takes precedence. I've already gone to Duane Reade and got some EZ Off Heavy Duty Cleaner, scouring pads and some Sapporo Beer to drink while I let the EZ off do it's thing.

The EZ OFF removed the color from the scales revealing an interesting blonde "horn".
I came home and hand sanded the blade a bit better slathering it with Mothers.

    Without further ado.....
That is a beautiful razor - they just don't get much better than one of those Holy Grails, congratulations - what a fantastic, rare piece of shaving history.

LOL....I lack the proper sophistication to do a complete restore. A real man uses primitive tools. EZ OFF and sand paper. And we all know GB's are not for shaving. They are for staring at. How else are we supposed to keep them at 9/8s. These are the Holy Grails for cheetah's sake!

It's true, that's much better than the seller's pics led one to believe. Congrats, it was well worth the money, maybe even a deal.

Indeed, Cheetah! A real man would get a bevel on that and clean off some whiskers with it! A display case with the big antiques you have amassed would be quite impressive.
Slather that thing with oil of some sort, willya?

BTW. what is up with going to "Duane Reade" for oven cleaner and drinking Japanese beer?
We just go to the Walmart or Walgreens for that. Miller Light.
I suppose that is quite 'sophisticated'!

I just ordered a 1k, 3k,5k and 8k NANIWA SUPER STONE set (arriving in June) so hopefully soon enough I will be learning how to set a bevel. Now I have to find a 12k Super Stone

Yeah there will still be some pitting I think but the original pics def made it look like you were bidding on a piece of junk. Can't let GB's go to waste.
