Thanked: 4826There is Renaissance Wax and Conservators Wax. As far as I know they are pretty much the same product. I would put it on the blades and just lightly mineral oil the scales once a year or so. It should keep everything nicely preserved.

Thanked: 19Is it easier to make thin scales with ivory than with other materials? (I'm not being critical... I have no idea how to identify ivory as opposed to ivory-colored material and want to learn) It seems a lot of people feel these scales are ivory; what criteria are everybody looking for?

Thanked: 5I know I'm probably going to get flamed and piss some of you off but I'll take my chances.
From a human and ethical point of view how can someone even contemplate ivory? pre-ban or not, it's morally wrong. So much morbidity coming from many straight razors. Bone scales this, ivory that, horn this, etc. Makes me want to look at the calendar and wonder if it's really 2016. Bloody hell, even badger hair is bad man but apparently them Chinese eat badger so I'll think of it as a by product.
And yes, I'm vegan.

Beautiful pair of razors.
I can see where they would need a prominent place in a display....
Ya gotta at least test drive 'em though!!

Based on color, pinning, thickness, grain, and smell they are IVORY! I can smell em from here.
What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one

Thanked: 4826Well yes and no. There have been great and discussing slaughters of all kinds of animals over the year for all kinds of purposes. I think that awareness and respect for the animals has brought these down significantly. However, to discard all of what was taken, I feel would also be a disrespect of kinds. Yes there were very goods reasons for the ivory ban. Those lives have been taken and the blood shed. To blatantly discards those object would be as big of a disrespect as the hunt was in the first place. From my perspective two wrongs do not make a right. I am pretty sure everyone I know respects the ban, and the animals that have given their lives in the past. As for the modern products, they are byproducts of other industries. I hope we can agree to disagree.
