Mark, You're most welcome. All I found was that the company that sold that hone/strop combination also sold barber hones & they had a woman who made these hones & that was it. She passed away & no one could duplicate her hones as far as I know but a person could possibly make their own hone/strop by using some wood, leather, felt & a hone that one could find that would be good enough to refresh a razors edge in just a few strokes & then to strop it which would be a great traveling companion with a straight razor. It might be carborundum or similar to that of a barber hone. History has it that the old woman who made these hones was taught by Franz Swaty who made the famous Swaty hone. I'm sure someone could make their own if they have a certain straight razor in mind & make it so the razor would fit inside. A person could make one using a barber hone.

The company was "American Hone Company" of Moravia Iowa and before that, Olean,New York.
Quite a few sources of information if you Google it.

You're right Richard. That's what I came up with along with the other information I wrote. I guess I should have included that as well.
Here is where I found that on Google:

The hone doesn't look like a barber hone but slate.
Does the red felt keep the leather of the strop tight?

Thanked: 1160I was thinking about this tonight and still wishing someone would make these for sale.I think to answer the question, that the felt is the equivalent to the fabric strop seen on most strops. You usually have a leather and fabric strop ,hence.....
