Thread: Project. My first horn scales

OK guys. I ordered a horn blank on Ebay. Got it just the other day. Went at it today. Now this is the second set of scales I've ever made but the first set in horn. I got lots of help with questions before I started. So here you go. Not too bad if I say so myself.



The colors are opposite. This is because after cutting them out I got out the belt sander and got carried away. Went too deep on one of them. Took a look at the material I had left and it was just enough to make a replacement. Was so happy about having enough that I forgot all about matching up the color. 50% chance and I lost. Oh well, I'm happy with them. Now to make a Wedge and get them pinned. Maybe later or tomorrow.

Great job for a first set. I kinda like the color offset.

I think the offset colors are very cool.

I'd say that's a good job for ANY attempt, GasMan! (And I too like the color offset), Now get a blade in there and show us the finished piece!

I would not loose any sleep over the color thing. They look great.

just made the wedge out of same material. That seems to be the tough part for me. Getting the right spacing and all. got it made now but will need to wait till tomorrow for the pinning.

A Fjaril Razor is going in these scales. Fjaril is Swedish for Butterfly. Cant find anything besides what I written on this razor. Looked it up on all the lists I can find and still nothing. It says R. Barlach's Import on the back of the tang.
Anyone know anything on this one? Not that it maters. The scales are made for it now.
