My friend, I figure that if I could strop the piss out of a razor that was honed by a Japanese Soldier on Iwo Jima with only his spit for the hone and leather duty belt as a strop and get a 'decent' shave those factory edges should at least give some kind of a shave without tugging.
But as you pointed out they don't pass the arm hair test so you've already started the testing process!

Thanked: 3226Excellent finds. I think that Kama will surprise you. I'd try just giving that one a good stropping and do a shave test stroke or two.

Awesome score, Jerry-And the old lady sounds like one we would all love to meet: old school, do business on a handshake and a promise-good on you and your wife for expediting the balance. I love Roy's quote too, by the way. A signature on a piece of paper does not make a person magically honest.
Beautiful blades-I need to start doing more hunting like that.

A bit off topic but I have many, many checks that my paternal grandfather wrote many years ago. One was to the company that I ended up starting to work for in 1979. However the check that my grandfather wrote out on was a 'Counter Check' you younger guys don't know what that was but years ago (I remember them) at the stores checkouts there were blank checks from the various local banks and you would simply fill them out and they would be accepted. No Addresses, No Driver License Numbers No Nothing!
Now that check that was made out to the company I ended up making a career with was written in 1927 on a 'Counter Check' and it's filled out in Pencil! Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

Thanks guys. Well after a bit of time on the strop the Kama is close to shave ready but not quite there. And after looking at the Henckel thru a loupe I can see the heal has been dinged so both will have to go to the hones. Thats ok with me though. I will know they will be right when done. The Kama isn't going to need much as the bevel looks pretty good. Maybe just a touch-up.
Yep, that old lady just blew me away. Trusting old fool. Not guessing on her age of 93. She bragged about how old she was. Cant blame her for that. Still sharp in the mind too. I hope she hasn't been taken advantage of too many times. I'm guessing it was my good looks that won her over. Ha. Now if I can just find the time tomorrow to break out the hones. It's just Sharpening, right?

Thanked: 3226Glad you tried just stropping the Kama before trying it. Pretty amazing how close to shave ready those old NOS razors can be and some actually are shave ready after all those years. Yea, a touch up may be all she needs. Enjoy.

This all reminds me of when I stopped at an antiques shop and found a razor, but only had ten bucks in my wallet, he wanted $15 for the razor, but after showing him my wallet he accepted my offer. The surprise was when I came back in some time later (3-4 months ) and found one for $10. I asked if he remembered me, he says yes I do, and I handed him $15 and said thanks for the loan.
He put me in the VIP book for when razors come in . [emoji6]Mike
