2 new Razors for the collection
And I do mean new. These still have the factory edges on them and absolutely no hone ware.
I got off work early, being my Friday, and the wife said she seen a listing for some straight razors for sale in the Thrifty Nickel and thought we could go look. She then told me where the place was. I told her that is about a 75min drive to get to the place and I've seen the place many times. Looks like a hoarders house and its spilled to the outside but they have an Antiques sign up. We agreed to go give it a try. I figured old rusty blades of some kind, And this is what I found...
The Henckel has some fine pitting on the blade and some on the tang but the Kama is in perfect shape. And with the original boxes I just could pass them up. $115.00 for the both of them. 7/8 in size. I tried to get the price knocked down some but the 93 year old lady wouldn't budge. But I then found she only deal with cash. I had 40 in my pocket and she said that would work to put down on them and I could mail her the rest of the money when I get a chance. Blew me away! She said a check in the mail was good enough for her. And she told me to take the razors home now so she don't sell them accidentally.
Now I havent did any research on these yet but I feel I got a good deal on two 7/8 NIB Razors. It's just Sharpening, right?

Well my friend, looks like a nice score. Now you get to play! Try just stropping them as you would after honing and give them a go.
Without having them in hand, I'd bet that when you go to hone that using one layer of the tape and your 4K with slurry would work well to set a nice bevel. (I hate to waste steel and I'd bet that neither would need a 1K bevel set).
Again nice score! Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

Nice score! Always nice to find good people. Not many willing to do anything close to that.

I'd bet a Dollar to a Dog Turd that the elderly woman was raised the same way I was about business.
I was told that if a man's handshake wasn't any good; neither was the piece of paper he signed his name to. Cuz if he's F' you on a hand shake he'd find a way to F' you after signing his name!

The wife already made out the check and got it ready to go out in the mail. I'd feel bad if I stiffed her after her being so trusting.
Thanks Roy. I'll give the strop a try and if it dont do it I'll start at 4K like you said. I was starting to wonder about what would be needed. They wont pass the arm hair test at this time but maybe after some time on the strop. It cant hurt to try.
The Henckel is a number 74 And it says,
Made in Germany. The
Bestcondolsteel
Has the twins on the tang by these words but dont say Henckel on the tang at all. The logo is like the 1900 twin logo. Plus says Germany so I'm going to guess 1920"s to 1930"s.
The Kama (Koch & Schafer) says Solingen - Germany so I'll guess about the same time and its marked #217.It's just Sharpening, right?
