Local finds - A Genco day and more
Yesterday CarrieM, JrJoeD and I went antiquing a bit out of our normal route. A good haul and excellent prices. I have close ups of the individual blades so if you would like to see any of them on their own just let me know which one(s) and I will post the individual pictures.
On the left from top to bottom:
Clauss
Genco Expert
Damascus steel - Silver Steel
Genco Red Cross
Genco Jossep
Wade Razor Co.
Across the top:
Gillette Red Tip
Gillette Aristocrat
Center:
J.A. Henckles seven day set Feedback would be appreciated. What's missing?
Right, top to bottom:
Genco Old Dutch
Geneva Cutlery
Prolific
Genco Heavy
Genco Easy Aces - Scales off restore
Torrey
Except for the Easy Aces, which was a scales off restore last night and this morning, all blades were cleaned and buffed.
The second picture is a Genco Display case that 5 of the Genoc's came, which also included the Clauss.
Hope you enjoy the pics.“If you always do what you always did, you will always get what you always got.” (A. Einstein)

Very nice find! I think it is safe to say that the antique stores/flea markets in my part of the country STINK! When I approach someone asking about straight razors I get either one of two looks:
1. Serial Killer (?)
2. A look of disbelief
Great blades, but the box might be the biggest win of the day!

That Genco display is bad to the bone. Great haul and I am surprised to see that you also collect DEs. Cool but just didn't know you were into those.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I learned to shave with my Dad's Super speed. It's been a long time since I used a DE. Today the DE's go to JrJoeD and CarrieM. THe Henckels seven day set is hers and the Red Tip and Aristrocrat is Jr's. Jr has about 20 DEs and CarrieM has a few as well as a few straights she uses when she has the time to enjoy them. My straights will go to Jr. That's why I don't usually sell any of them. He also works the straight razor restores with me and sometimes helps out with the honing.

How in the world do you find these stores ahead of the omnipresent flock of other collectors? I am thinking you must have an extensive network of contacts in them....I get calls from a couple of stores in in Tucson, when new straight razors arrive. The Genco box, of course, simply rules. The razor that stands out for me is the Torrey. Is that a perfect MOP tang? Congratulations on expert antique store mining techique! I will be in hellish Yuma AZ next week, which has two excellent antique stores. I am already excited about what I might find! Thanks for sharing the great pictures.
