I'm also inclined to think celluloid -- but what great work!

Carving bone or tortoise that way would be a huge labor of love -- just think what you would have to do to make that happen in bone or tortoise. Not to mention that it's done on both sides. I think it has to be some molded product and celluloid is about the only one available in that time period. Still beautiful workmanship. Nice pick.

Yeah I suspect that too... and yeah they are the whole shell. Maybe if I can ever save some cash lol, I can get Glen to make me a nice seven day set with one! Hmmmm...

My thinking was that shell was pressed into shape in the first place. Pressing a design would only be a matter of using a different mold. That said, it's hard to tell on my phone, but I'm totally good with celluloid just the same.

I'm not sure either, the picture is too small in the ad, but who cares? It'll be nice either way. Please update us when you get it, maybe you can post some better pics.

    I certainly will!

All I have is the camera on my phone, but I have really good lighting at work and I'll do my best.

Stay tuned for better pics, before and after I clean and polish the scales and restore the blade.

Looking at the very last picture I can see what appears to be the blotchy white /gray spots from age or moisture that the article talked about. I think. That's encouraging to me!
