Thanked: 44I've only seen real tortoise shell scales once, but IMO its easy to identify from the impostors when seen up close.
Natural tortoise is less perfect, less clear than the rest. I don't know any better way to describe it.

The scales are definitely celluloid. But they are beautiful! Put a few pics up in the show and tell section. Only cleaned the grunge off with simple green and a toothbrush so far. Really a beauty though, it'll look great all shiny and polished and clean!
